HK Holden (1968-1969)

The HK Holden introduced another major step forward in styling and engines. Much more American looking, and a bigger car by every measure, the HK Holden also introduced the famous Chev-engined Monaro coupe models.

This model is somewhat of a rarity now as it was only produced for one year.

The stripes embedded into the hood sheet metal just begged for hoons to paint in racing stripes.

Strangely, the Monaro models used stripes off to one side and it was only later models that emphasised the shape on the bonnet.

Belmont replaced the Standard base model and the Kingswood model replaced the Special models of the past. The Premier model name was retained right through to the HZ. The Brougham was introduced as an up-market luxury model that would eventually be replaced by the Statesman.

Models: Belmont sedan, Kingswood sedan, Premier sedan, Belmont station wagon, Kingswood station wagon, Premier station wagon, Brougham sedan, Monaro coupe, Monaro GTS coupe and Monaro GTS 327 coupe, Belmont panel van, Belmont utility, Kingswood utility

Total number produced: 199,039

Domestic: 183,094

Export: 5,001

CKD: 10,944
