´74 holden kingswood

¤ My Golden Holden

I'm the tenth owner of this 1974 Holden Kingswood. Like many cars over 30 years old, it has an interesting history. It was bought new from Manthel Motors in Lower Hutt, just like my 1972 Monaro!

74 Kingswood

¤ First Life – Stock Standard (1974–1983)

First registered on the 9th of August 1974, the first owner kept it until the 31st of August 1983. It was ordered as a Holden Kingswood with 202 high compression motor, a common combination since these options only cost $150 more than the base model Belmont.

¤ Other Care Givers (1983-2005)

Another eight owners looked after her for the next 22 years and it was found a little the worse for wear on a farm in Marton of all places. When I got her, she was partly restored with a new paint job, spring from an HQ race car and matching old style aluminium wheels. The thing I liked about it was that it was a very honest car and almost everything was still there unlike most of these that ended up circuit racing or in the hands of boy racers.

¤ Harry Rides Again (2005-2006)

In keeping with originality of the car, I replaced all the suspension bushings with a nolathane kit including the subframe and steering. New ball joints and wheel bearings make everything steers like it should and a quick spray can engine paint job makes it look like new in there. She already had a new master cylinder when I got her, so the firewall was in good nick. Some hard to find original bits are missing, like the passenger door card in dark brown but it is driven daily.

Now SOLD! Jason, I can't believe I sold her, I want her back!
